38 Weeks: Mr. Wonderful

Wow, just 2 weeks until our due date! Rob and I have been taking everyone’s advice to enjoy dining out and sleeping in while we still can. We both finished up “What to Expect When you are Expecting” and when reading the chapter for “dads to be” I felt so fortunate to have a husband who was already doing all of their suggestions on how to be a supportive partner during this baby growing process. I am one lucky girl! This week we have another doctor’s appointment and will find out if there is any progress on BK’s desire to enter this world. Both Rob and I have come to the reality that he seems pretty set on hanging out in my belly for as long as possible so we are anticipating a post due date delivery… only time will tell.

37 Weeks: Packed

Rob and I took the big step and packed the hospital bag and completed the birth plan. This along with a trip to Babies R Us for a few more items makes us feel we are as prepared as we can be for BK’s arrival, whenever that is… I am now starting to get to the uncomfortable stage. It took 37 weeks so I have absolutely no complaints. This week marks the first time having to loosen up my shoe laces to fit my swelling feet and my wedding rings no longer fitting. BK’s feet now reach my right rib, and I have woken up a few times needing to massage them back down to get comfortable again. The other two symptoms have been some acid reflux in the evenings if I eat dinner too late and most recently my right hand tingles and goes numb a few times each day. Again no complaints, but wanted to capture the few sypmtoms I have had 🙂 BK Update: Even though the books have said baby’s movement should start to slow down weeks ago as they run out of space, BK has not received this memo. He is still moving around a ton, but the big difference now is that I can see/feel more movement from the outside than internally since there is a constant pressure on the inside. Rob also test fit the carseat in the airplane, so we are getting ready for our first family airplane adventure.

In the weekly doctor appointment today, they did an ultrasound, and he is indeed big: an estimated 8 lbs, 10 oz today, though it could be +/- 15% of that. Looks like we won’t be needing any premie clothes.

36 Weeks: Big Belly

We had a great time taking maternity pictures at the arboretum, followed by a yummy breakfast and a nice walk exploring more of the arboretum. We should get to see the photos in the next 2-3 weeks. ***6/16 Update: Maternity pictures are now posted here: http://kochman.smugmug.com/Other/Maternity-Pictures/*** BK update: At our weekly appointment all of the tests came back normal and the doctor now wants to do an ultrasound at our next appointment. I was measuring 38cm at 36 weeks which is the largest to date (usually my number of centimeters is 0-1 above the number of weeks). We are excited to be able to check in on BK again and to help identify the body parts we have been feeling pushing out for so many weeks now. Our guess is that his bottom is on my left side and feet on my right. We also got an “end date;” if BK doesn’t come before then, I will be induced on June 22nd. Rob and I have been busy putting the finishing touches on BK’s room. On the left we have a swing, crib, and twin bed. On the right we have a bookshelf and dresser with changing set-up on top.

We also installed the carseat, and I have already adjusted to putting my work bag in the truck vs. the backseat now–one of many more adjustments that will be coming once this guy arrives!

We thought it would be fun to capture the nicknames we have used before his arrival. Little Guy, Big Guy, BK (Baby Kochman), BBK (Baby Boy Kochman), Home Slice, Home Skillet, Trey, and Stewie (figuring he probably has a big head). Yes, we are still working on names for after his arrival too.
